Details about the ward:
32 bed ward with mixed General Medical, Haematology and Oncology patients. We provide all inpatient cancer support for the north and northwest of Tasmania.
Given we are a mixed General medical ward we see a varied patient mix at times this being heavily oncology and haematological presentations, heavily general medical or a mix of both. We are frequently utilised to step down HDU and ICU patients given our ability to manage high acuity patients with our cancer care emergency management.
Medical presentations can include chronic disease management, delirium, infections or suspected new diagnosis of a malignancy and specialties also from cardiology, gastroenterology, respiratory, stroke or neurology patient mix.
Our staffing ratio is generally 4:1 with an indirect haematology CNC 7 days a week and a general medical CNC 5 days a week. We also run an ANUM without a patient load on early and late shifts and an ANUM who has a patient load of 4:1 overnight. In addition, weekdays we have a CNE and NUM present. We also have a midi shift without a patient load from 10am till 6.30pm weekdays to assist with acuity, On the weekends the ANUM early shift also has a clinical support float to ensure access and flow and support to nursing staff.
