About the Role
We are seeking an experienced and visionary Executive Director of Nursing and Midwifery to provide strategic leadership and professional governance across nursing and midwifery services within a major health service. This pivotal executive role is accountable for the delivery of high-quality, patient-centred care, aligned with professional standards, legislative frameworks, and strategic health service priorities. As a key member of the Executive Leadership Team, you will drive the strategic direction of nursing and midwifery practice, influence health policy and governance, and contribute to workforce planning, innovation, and clinical excellence.
Key Responsibilities
- Lead the governance, strategy, and performance of nursing and midwifery services across the health service
- Provide expert advice to the Chief Executive and Board on nursing/midwifery workforce, practice, and policy
- Oversee clinical governance and ensure compliance with national standards and regulatory requirements
- Drive innovation and lead the design and implementation of professional development, research, and education strategies
- Develop and manage workforce and strategic business plans in alignment with organisational priorities
- Foster a culture of collaboration, accountability, and excellence within nursing and midwifery teams
- Build capacity in leadership, education, and succession planning for nursing and midwifery professionals
Key Requirements
- Current registration as a Registered Nurse with the Nursing and Midwifery Board of Australia
- Postgraduate qualifications in Nursing/Midwifery, Health Management, or equivalent
- Demonstrated experience in a senior or executive nursing leadership role in a large or complex healthcare setting
- In-depth knowledge of national safety and quality standards, clinical governance, and workforce development
- Strong stakeholder engagement and communication skills
- Proven capacity in human, financial, and resource management
- Ability to lead strategic change and foster a positive, high-performance culture
- Desirable: Registration as a Registered Midwife (highly regarded) & Master’s level qualifications in Nursing, Education, or Health Administration.
